LeanHull

v1.0

A low poly convex hull generator designed to create ultra-low poly collision meshes from high poly visual models directly in the Unity Editor.

1

Installation

To install LeanHull into your project, follow these steps:

  • Purchase LeanHull from the Unity Asset Store.
  • In the Unity Editor, go to Window > Package Manager.
  • Change the filter in the top-left dropdown to Packages: My Assets.
  • Search for "LeanHull", click Download, and then click Import.
  • Once imported, the tool and its resources will be located in the Assets/Editor/LeanHull directory.
2

Workflow

Open LeanHull Navigate to Window > LeanHull in the top menu to open the main tool window.
Select Assets Choose prefabs, imported models, and raw meshes in the Project view to begin optimization.
Global Settings Adjust the Vertex Count (target count per hull) and Merge (combine sub-meshes) in the top toolbar. Pro-tip: Hold Shift while clicking arrows to step by 8 vertices instead of 1.
Individual Overrides Use the ◀ ▶ arrows on any tile to tweak specific vertex counts. Use the Merge/Separate icon to toggle merging for that item only.
Clearing Overrides When an item has custom settings, a Padlock icon appears. Click it to reset the object to the global defaults.
Preview Rotate thumbnails with the Left Mouse Button. Move the vertical divider to compare the original (right) with the optimized result (left). Shortcut: Hold Ctrl + Scroll to quickly resize the preview grid.
Apply Click Apply to generate and attach the colliders. This process handles object renames automatically.
Note: Undo is not supported for asset modification. Please ensure you have a backup or commit changes to source control before applying.

Asset Storage

External Assets

All generated hulls are saved as .asset files in the Assets/Game/LeanHull folder by default.

Why not subassets?

LeanHull uses external assets to ensure stable visualization in the Unity Editor. This prevents a common Unity bug where collision wireframes disappear during prefab autosaves or re-imports.

Manual Cleanup

Click the Sweep button on the toolbar to automatically find and delete orphaned colliders. Unreferenced prefab colliders are scrubbed immediately. Model colliders are only removed if both unreferenced and the source file is missing.
